Lent For Everyone
February 28th, 2014 | John Chandler
Lent begins next Wednesday, March 5 and lasts through the week of Easter. Lent is commonly thought of as a season to give something up, but its really much more than that. It is a season of preparation, reflection on our own brokenness as humans, and ultimately on the death that comes from it. While that might not sound so inviting, it makes for a beautiful arrival of Easter Sunday, as the tension of death is broken by the joy of resurrection.
We will join millions of churches around the world in following the lectionary Scripture readings in our liturgy throughout Lent. But we hope Lent will be more than that for all of us. We are inviting everyone to join together in the daily readings of Lent for Everyone, by NT Wright. This devotional will take you through Matthew’s telling of the life of Jesus from birth and leading up to death. And, or course, right on to resurrection.
We will have some hard copies available in Liturgy this week for $10, or the digerati among us can pick up the Kindle version.
This will be the first Lenten journey together for most of us, and we’re looking forward to what it will bring.
