This Sunday: Authority?
September 24th, 2015 | John Chandler
We’ve spent a long, hot summer inching our way through Jesus’ manifesto known as The Sermon on the Mount. Now, we finally come to Jesus final claim and his audience’s reaction.
When Jesus had finished saying these things, the crowds were amazed at his teaching, because he taught as one who had authority, and not as their teachers of the law.
Matthew 7:28-29
He taught as one who had authority.
Authority.
In Jesus day, authority was a rare occurence among religious leaders. Jesus stood out.
In the United States, we’ve spent decades railing against it.
Is there a place for Jesus and a voice of authority today?
