This is Who We Are is an interview series where the women and men of Austin Mustard Seed introduce themselves. If you’d like to participate, send an email to Chris Morton.

This week we have the pleasure of introducing you to Jessica Foust.

What’s your favorite dish to cook?

I’m more of a baker… I love to make (and eat) cookies.

Where is the most exciting place you have traveled?

So hard to pick! My love for travel started the first time I went out of the country was to spend a summer in Thailand. It was a great adventure that opened my eyes to how big God’s creativity is.

Who are some of your heroes and why?

Mother Teresa, Dr. Paul Brand, Jim Elliot… people who got out of their comfort zones and loved the outsiders. Kind of like Jesus.

Where did you grow up?

Portland, Texas. Just across the bay from Corpus Christi.

What is your day job?

I’m a pediatric occupational therapist.

Why do you follow Jesus?

Because I love the way he turned everyone’s expectations upside down. Because he healed and touched and restored and cried. Because he was perfect and still somehow people liked him. But mostly because I need his grace.

What is one thing you love about Austin Mustard Seed?

I love being part of a group of people who are serious about seeking truth, but not so serious about thinking they have the truth figured out. That means that whether I’m in passionate believer phase or hopeful skeptic phase, I still have a place at the table.
