This week we have the pleasure of introducing you to Leah Gonzalez.

What’s your favorite dish to cook?

I make a pretty excellent pizza.

What hobbies do you have?

I like to make things. Lately it’s been a lot of crafting projecting like embroidering and toy-making.

Who are some of your heroes?

My parents, David Robinson, & Dolly Parton

Where did you grow up?

San Antonio, TX

What is your day job?

I do legislative and advocacy work for a non-profit called Healthy Futures of Texas. That means I explain why our issues are important to local and state legislators, and strategize ways they can help.

What is your favorite verse in scripture?

John 1:5—The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

This is my favorite verse for a couple reasons. First, it’s a really accessible image. There’s so much in the bible that I don’t fully understand and that take careful study to really access, so I’m appreciative that this verse at the start of John, that lays the foundation for the story of Jesus, is such a universal image. I’m also drawn to this verse because it acknowledges the darkness in the world. It doesn’t shy away from admitting that darkness will be around, and maybe really close, but it cannot overcome the light.

What is one thing you love about Austin Mustard Seed?

I love that there is a main focus on spending time with each other outside of Sunday mornings.
