Meet the Leadership Team: April Karli
August 25th, 2016 | John Chandler
We couldn’t be more thrilled to begin integrating the Leadership Team into the life of Austin Mustard Seed. Each member was suggested by the community of Austin Mustard Seed as a recognition of the service they’ve already provided to our Church. We believe that God will use this team to help our Church community mature into who we are called to be.
For the next few weeks, we’ll feature brief interviews with each member. Stay tuned!
What’s your name and the name of your family members?
April, Matt, Jessica, Lydia
How did you come to be a part of Austin Mustard Seed?
A friend of mine told me about Austin Mustard Seed (Erin Szczerba). She invited me to some sort of gathering; I can’t remember what it was. But I came with her, and I’m still here.
Describe Your Spiritual Journey
I was born into a Christian family, and don’t remember a time when I didn’t believe in or know God. My experience of knowing God has been as natural and easy as knowing my own parents in some ways. Though, like any significant relationship, it has come with times of challenge as well.
My dad is a pastor, and church was my second home as a kid. I grew up in a non-denominational Bible church. Now I describe myself as an “ecclesiastical mutt” with heavy doses of Charismatic and Anglican experiences thrown in to keep everything in balance…or confusing, depending on who you ask.
In recent years, my spiritual journey has involved allowing myself to be more vulnerable to others as well as to God, so I can know God’s deep love for me on a more experiential level, and grow into a person who (hopefully) is loving God and others well.
What book(s) has/have had the most influence on you?
Jane Eyre, Charlotte Brontë
Men & Women in the Church, Sarah Summer
Life of the Beloved, Henri Nouwen
Finding Faith: A Self-Discovery Guide for Your Spiritual Quest, Brian McLaren
Is there anything else you want Austin Mustard Seed to know about you?
I think chips and salsa should be it’s own food group.
