We couldn’t be more thrilled to begin integrating the Leadership Team into the life of Austin Mustard Seed. Each member was suggested by the community of Austin Mustard Seed as a recognition of the service they’ve already provided to our Church. We believe that God will use this team to help our Church community mature into who we are called to be.

For the next few weeks, we’ll feature brief interviews with each member. Stay tuned!

What’s your name and the name of your family members?

Kevin, Karen (wife), Matthew (son), Nathan (son).

How did you come to be a part of Austin Mustard Seed?

I learned about AMS online and decided to visit. Immediately after this visit we both said “it felt like home,” and we haven’t looked back since.

Describe Your Spiritual Journey

Since first being introduced to a personal relationship with God at age 13 by my dad after he went through a dramatic conversion experience and struggling through several years of agnosticism in my early twenties I have been on what at times has been an arduous journey to accept, learn to live out, and mine the depths of the reality of the Gospel as encapsulated in Brennan Manning’s poignant statement: “God loves you as you are not as you should be.”

What book(s) has/have had the most influence on you?

The Bible, of course, but several others at different times in my life including: The Structure of Scientific Revolutions by Thomas Kuhn and The Death of Ivan Illych (short story) by Leo Tolstoy. Both had a profound effect upon me in college and grad school when I went through a period of agnosticism to renewed Christian faith.

Although I disagree theologically with him on many issues, John Piper’s book, Desiring God opened my mind to, what was for me, a life-transforming discovery that God’s commitment to our joy and His glory are two sides of the same coin.

Is there anything else you want Austin Mustard Seed to know about you?

I am a huge Bob Dylan fan.
