JR Briggs on His Time in Austin

jrb-oct-2016-1-1Recently, we are thrilled to have our friend J.R. Briggs visit us on behalf of our partners at The Ecclesia Network. J.R. described the experience in the Ecclesia Newsletter. You can read and subscribe here.

Austin Mustard Seed, under the faithful shepherding of John Chandler and Chris Morton, just recently formed and commissioned an elder team; additionally, after several years of faithful formation and connection in the city, they have begun to meet for public liturgy on Sunday mornings. (The space where the church meets may be the most beautiful public worship spaces of any of our Ecclesia churches!).

I am deeply impressed with the newly formed team with their unity, passion, missional instincts and pastoral experience. Together, the new elder team spent several sessions looking at team dynamics, discerning how future decisions should be made, discussing the role of spouses to the team and exploring key factors within the church culture moving forward.

During their public liturgy, they follow a very purposeful liturgical order; and yet, it is met with noticeable hospitality and possesses a refreshing relational presence in the midst of it. They also treated me to some of the best food Austin has to offer. (More barbecue, along with breakfast tacos and great coffee).
