January 26th, 2017 | John Chandler
This is Who We Are is an interview series where the women and men of Austin Mustard Seed introduce themselves. If you’d like to participate, send an email to Chris Morton.
This week we have the pleasure of introducing you to Jonathan and Alison Baker.
Where is the most exciting place you have traveled?
We spent 10 days in Europe in 2009. We flew in to Madrid, took trains to Valencia, Barcelona, Marseille, Paris, Caen, and flew out from London. We were most impressed by the cathedrals Sagrada Familia in Barcelona and Mont Saint-Michel in Normandy.
What was the last movie you watched that you really enjoyed?
Alison really enjoyed La La Land, and the last movie Baker really enjoyed was Ex Machina.
What hobbies do you have?
Alison likes to read, garden, and cook. Baker plays board games, video games, and all the sportsball.
Where did you grow up?
Alison grew up in Paducah, KY, and Baker grew up in Centerville, TN.
Where did you go to school?
Baker went to Freed-Hardeman in Henderson, TN for a couple years and transferred to Lipscomb University where he met Alison and fell deeply in love.
What is your favorite story or verse in scripture?
Alison’s favorite verse is Matthew 17:20 “Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.” Baker’s favorite chapters are Romans 8, Ephesians 3, Colossians 1 and 1 John 1.
What is one thing you love about Austin Mustard Seed?
I love being part of a group of people who are serious about seeking truth, but not so serious about thinking they have the truth figured out. That means that whether I’m in passionate believer phase or hopeful skeptic phase, I still have a place at the table.
