Reaching Out in Rosedale

November 2nd, 2018 | April Karli

At Austin Mustard Seed we believe that it’s not joy that gives us gratitude, but gratitude that gives us joy. We are grateful for many things during this season of our life together as a church in the city of Austin.

This week we are especially grateful for meeting our neighbors at the Fall Block Party. One of our desires as a community is to connect with people outside our church together. The Block Party was a success at doing that!

Despite the intermittent rain and wind, we had a fun and memorable evening. Austin Mustard Seed, Hope of Life, and friends from the Rosedale neighborhood huddled together in the rain to enjoy food, face painting, and games with the kids.

Neighbors stopped by to ask who we were as they grabbed candy for their children. And kids ran up and down the sanctuary aisles in their costumes as they took a break from the rain, laughing and singing and making friends.

Due to the rain, the evening didn’t go exactly as planned. But that made it resemble the messy, huddled-together kingdom of God all the more. The mobilization team looks forward to organizing more community events like this in the future as we make efforts to know our neighbors and love our city!
