Join us for Liturgy March 22, 2020
March 21st, 2020 | April Karli
Tomorrow we will gather for liturgy at 10:30am. Out of love for the health and safety of our neighbors we cannot gather physically. But, as God’s family we know that our connection remains even when we’re apart.
Much of our liturgy will be familiar. We have chosen Zoom so that we can see each other’s faces and give opportunity to share prayer requests or other things that are on your hearts. There will be times of spoken prayer, song, a brief meditation, and the Eucharist as well. We expect our time to be shorter than usual — about 45 minutes.
Some of you use Zoom often for work, but others are less comfortable connecting digitally. Here are some ways to prepare for tomorrow:
Join from a room from where you are comfortable, and if you’re with others make sure everyone can see. Make sure to have a fresh cup of your favorite coffee or tea nearby!
We want to encourage you to bring a prayer, scripture, song, or encouragement of your own. Scripture encourages us to do this when we gather and this format is a great opportunity for us to practice! You can jot down ideas or notes before tomorrow to help you remember what you want to say. It’s especially important for us to pray for our world and each other right now.
During Prayers of the People wave at the camera so that your mic will be unmuted and you can share your prayer request.
For Eucharist have some bread (tortillas, chips) and wine (juice, etc) ready. We will come together to God’s table and invite the presence of Christ into our homes and our hearts.
A note to parents: The kids love the novelty of this way of communication and are eager to chat and dance in front of the camera.
We are planning ways to involve the kids in liturgy and we will invite them into those times. We also hope for you to experience moments of silence and contemplation. This is an opportunity to invite your kids into listening to God in stillness and silence. Kids are capable of much more than we give them credit for and the Spirit will speak to them! It’s also a great time to teach your children “digital etiquette” which will serve them well as they grow up and eventually move into their adult and professional lives.
