The Story of God, The Story of Us

For many of us who grew up in church, we learned Bible stories, but not of teaching the Bible as one big Story. But there has been a new emphasis that way in the last decade, and it’s important as look for a larger understanding of God’s work in history and the present. This is part of what we talked about last Sunday as we reviewed our first Marker: Story.
A few years ago, I read a book — The Story of God, the Story of Us, by Sean Gladding — which I’d encourage anyone in the aMS community to read. It’s a retelling of Scripture in story format, as if it was being retold as an oral narrative. It spends enough time on the individual stories to explain them, but pulls them all together into the overriding picture. And it does it well enough that those of you with kids could read it as a family to form the bigger picture together. Someday, when we have a book table for Austin Mustard Seed, this is a book that will be on it.
